Pat with craab

Yesterday my husband tossed a stranded a horseshoe crab back into the ocean.  Someone might wonder what difference this small act makes in a world of suffering and selfishness.  “It made a difference to that one crab,” he’d say.  We had just lifted our arms to the morning sun, turning our wills and lives over to the great Powers we saw in the sun, the ocean, the vast sky, asking to be ‘instruments of peace,’ to be allowed to help someone today.

There is so much suffering, loved ones needing help, at least an open ear.  Often there is so little I can do directly to relieve the suffering! It’s frustrating to feel helpless, powerless.  So, I meditate, look deeply, hold everyone in my life who is suffering close to my heart, asking for inspiration to do whatever is possible to help relieve suffering.

I find Power in the realization that I am never alone, never able to solve any problem completely on my own.  I need people, the beauty and power of nature, all the forces for good, beauty, kindness, compassion and love in the world.  If I can contribute to that Force of Love today, please allow me the awareness, openness and compassion to do so.  We are all connected, so perhaps one act of kindness affects us all.

I hope that horseshoe crab lives a long life.

Full Moon 9:17

We were fortunate last night to see the full moon rise from the Atlantic ocean – huge, orange, gorgeous! We practiced movements from Moonlight Qi Gong to celebrate and connect with nature. Then we recited the Five Awarenesses for our monthly renewal of wedding vows:

1. We are aware that all generations of our ancestors and all future generations are present in us.
2. We are aware of the expectations that our ancestors, our children and their children have of us.
3. We are aware that our joy, peace, freedom and harmony are the joy, peace, freedom and harmony of our ancestors, our children and their children.
4. We are aware that understanding is the very foundation of love.
5. We are aware that blaming and arguing never help us and only create a wider gap between us, that only understanding, trust and love can help us change and grow.

If you would like to practice growing in understanding and love for your partner, join us in a brand new class this fall for COUPLES! We will meet for 4 sessions every other Wednesday beginning October 18 at the Takoma Park Community Center. Find out more about this class  Waking Up Together – on our website with a link to register with TPCC. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended. We look forward to practicing with you!

Eclipse 8:21Today the Totality! Many powerful spiritual forces align with moon and sun to wake us up.  At WMC last night, Thay talked about how listening to one another heals us from within.  I also spent several hours reading and studying Ch 14 in The Healing Promise of Qi by Roger Jahnke.  One passage seemed very relevant to our meeting today of Qi Gong teachers to practice during the eclipse.  “Everyone creates healing fields of energy.  Everyone benefits, especially those whose need is greatest.”

All of nature, especially the dance of the sun and moon today,  cooperates in the act of healing Energy.

Mindfulness is ENERGY! The energy of love, of goodness, serenity, peace, more powerful than hatred, violence and ego.   Mindfulness wakes us up to the fact that we are surrounded by powerful energy every moment of our lives.  It is available to us all – in nature, in meditation, in Qi Gong movements, in sharing both our suffering and joy, in breathing and smiling together.

Our giving and receiving does affect the whole world, sends out healing, refreshing energy to those who are suffering most.  Qi is not bound by time or space! It’s true! Science is real. Amazing!  Grateful to be alive and able to participate in today’s eclipse!

We greeted the rising sun together in the woods this morning with Sunlight Qi Gong, my favorite movement. As the first rays of the sun reached the tops of nearby trees, birds chirped, we smiled.  We are fortunate to live near woods, creeks, hilltops, many lovely outdoor spots to practice these healing movements daily after journaling and meditation.

After a very busy July, a restful August, a wonderful women’s retreat at Claymont, a lovely Qi Gong “Energize your Life” class and Pat’s speech at the ANFP conference in Ocean City, we are enjoying the changes in temperature and shorter days.  We will be announcing our new Qi Circles website soon with photos of some of these venues for our Qi Gong teaching.

We hope that you also find moments to enjoy the changes of autumn leaves, moving and dancing outdoors.  Qi is the “life force” energy inside us all, in the air, the earth, the trees, the full moon, the rising sun, the stars, so easy to bring into our minds and hearts with each breath.  Enjoy each precious moment of life!

Claymont dawn

What a joy to step out into the early morning, see Venus still bright in the Eastern sky, breathing, with the bird on the highest branch, waiting for the first light of dawn.

Our Women’s Retreat at Claymont Court gave us clear night stars, a glorious moon and two precious dawns. Some of us enjoyed a night venture into the meadow and also an early rising to greet the sunrise with Qi Gong in the ballroom.

Now that a hurricane is bringing us clouds and rain, can we summon up the beauty of those clear skies in our minds? Stay inspired, stop occasionally to breathe mindfully, eat more slowly, walk carefully, listen deeply, speak kindly?

Clouds come, clouds go….my mind is a clear blue sky.
